A side-vent heat pump (pool heat pump) is a pool heating system where the air intake and exhaust are located on the sides of the unit, rather than the front or rear.

A top-vent heat pump (pool heat pump) is a pool heating system where the air is drawn in and/or expelled through the top of the unit, rather than the sides or front.
